Social and Health Research Center
The Social & Health Research Center is committed to improving the social and health wellbeing of populations at-risk.
Social and Health Research Center (SAHRC) supports children, adults, and families in making healthy choices to control chronic disease such as obesity, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes through innovative and evidence-based education programs and health screenings. Children and adults that are able to lead healthy lifestyles are better prepared to thrive in school and at work, while avoiding potentially burdensome medical costs. SAHRC’s BieneStar curriculum is used in community centers, schools, wellness worksites, and in physician practices. These bilingual sessions teach participants skills and behaviors related to physical activity and nutrition, including: the relationship between health behaviors and chronic disease; health consequences of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease; and goal-setting and self-monitoring. By working across the many social determinants of health and targeting preventative care, SAHRC impacts the health of the community for generations.
