Children's Association for Maximum Potential (CAMP)
Cause Areas

To strengthen and inspire individuals with special needs - and those who care for them - through Recreation, Respite, and Education.

SA2020 Impact

The Children’s Association for Maximum Potential (CAMP) provides year-round recreation and education for children and adults with intellectual, developmental, and/or physical special needs. CAMP programming also invites their participants’ siblings without disabilities to participate, providing their caregivers with respite and ultimately improving the quality of life for entire families. CAMP specifically serves individuals with mild to severe disabilities, including those who are ineligible to attend other recreational programs. Their diagnoses include autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, traumatic brain injuries, down syndrome, hearing and/or visual impairment, and more. CAMP provides programming year-round in San Antonio and at its camp facility in the Texas Hill Country by the Guadalupe River. CAMP’s programming offers participants (CAMPers) experiences otherwise limited in their everyday settings: exerting their independence, engaging with nature, exercising, trying new things, developing friendships, and safely learning healthy social interaction. In the summer, CAMPers participate in horseback riding, swimming, canoeing, outdoor cooking and arts and crafts. Throughout the school year, the Respite Club program provides monthly events for children and adults aged 6 months to 40 years across 3 programs: Respite Weekend Camps, Parents Night Out, and Teen and Adult Day Adventure.
