Alamo Area Clean Cities Coalition
The mission of the Alamo Area Clean Cities Coalition is to advance the energy, economic, and environmental security of the United States by supporting local decisions to adopt practices that reduce the use of petroleum in the transportation sector.
The Alamo Area Clean Cities Coalition helps the community reach its SA2020 goals in multiple ways. In the area of Sustainability, increasing the use of alternative fuels and more efficient cars can significantly reduce emissions in San Antonio, helping us maintain our "attainment" status with the EPA. The coalition also distributes information on personal actions that can be taken in lieu of purchasing new technologies to reduce emissions. In the area of Downtown Development and Economic Competitiveness, the Coalition is pushing to increase the number of installed EV charging stations as well as alternative fueling stations like compressed natural gas. This not only increases the modern infrastructure of the city, but it also acts to draw more talent from across the nation to San Antonio. This can be a California native with an EV or a fleet looking to run on CNG in San Antonio. In the area of Transportation, the Coalition is working with VIA to convert its bus fleet to CNG, significantly reducing emissions and saving money. This will allow VIA to expand its operations and further reduce the Vehicle Miles Traveled of residents.
