Since our founding in 1926 and our re-founding in 1989, by the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament, our mission continues with compassion, respect and acceptance to educate and encourage children, youth and families. Our programs provide a safety net for those who reach out to us daily. Our purpose is to guide them to a life of success, self-efficiency and an attitude of giving back.
There are three programs on Blessed Sacrament Academy campus which target: Children ages six weeks to five years; teens and adults from economically disadvantaged communities in Bexar County. The Child Development Center readies children from infants through Pre-K for success in school. The CDC uses curriculum that includes regular assessments and parent participation. The Parents' Academy exists to empower positive parenting skills that reduce family stress and build family success. 100% of Parents' Academy graduates report positive outcomes and improvement in their parenting skills on evaluation surveys at the end of each class. The overall goal is to reduce child abuse and neglect. Por Vida Academy Charter High School prepares students for life beyond high school. Teamwork, parental involvement, perseverance, adaptive academics, nonjudgmental mentoring, and compassion are just a few of the means to an end – giving each student a personal chance to become a high school graduate. Students are encouraged to continue their education at a college or university.
